General Guidance
People who are symptomatic should get tested and self-isolate as per NHS guidance.
If you sneeze or cough, do so into a tissue or upper sleeve. Dispose of your tissue into a bin or place in a plastic bag and take home. Wash or sanitise your hands.
Participants will be asked the following health screening questions:
Have your felt hot, cold or shivery (flu-like symptoms)
Do you have a new or persistent cough
Do you have loss of smell or taste
Have you had recent contact with anyone ho is poorly with COVID-19
If the answer is ‘yes’ to any of these questions you should not attend the sea kayaking session.
Please bring your own hand sanitiser to the session.
Booking process
When you book with Sea Kayak Plockton the entire booking and payment process is carried out online. Accurate records of attendance are kept (in line with GDPR – data protection) so that if someone reports as having tested positive for COVID-19, Test and Protect can easily be implemented.
Meeting your group
Physical distancing will be encouraged between household groups.
You will meet at a place that is easy to locate, but where it is also possible to relocate to a place nearby in order to avoid busy areas.
Briefings and introductions take place outdoors.
If we do need to meet in an outdoor or indoor hospitality area the group will follow the measures put in place by its proprietor.
Kit and equipment
Please bring your own kit and equipment where possible.
If you wish to use the kit and equipment provided by Sea Kayak Plockton, you will need to provide your size information and what you require when you complete the online booking form. The link to the online booking form is supplied when your booking is confirmed.
Your personal kit is selected and packed for you by your coach who has followed hand washing protocols. Your kit will be provided in its own dry bag, which you can then use throughout the session for other personal items that need to be kept dry.
Personal clothing is washed in detergent and dried in a heated drying room after the session. Unwashed clothing does not enter the storage facility. Kit is handled during the washing, drying and storage process by staff who have followed hand washing protocols.
Only make contact with your own kit and don’t touch other equipment or surfaces.
Sea kayaks require 2 people to lift and move them. Ideally use a member of your own household group. The same people should contact the same end of the boat every time assistance is required. Contact points on the equipment will be cleaned before and after the session (boat toggles, cockpit area, hatch cover, paddle shafts).
Avoid touching your face at all until hands have subsequently been washed or cleaned.
Changing
Please come wearing the clothing that you will wear under the sea kayaking clothing that we provide. Changing will take place in a discreet location out doors. We ask that participants only use public toilet facilities to go to the toilet, and not to change in.
On the water
Your coach will select activities and venues with more caution than in ‘normal times’, in order to minimise the likelihood of needing assistance or rescue. However, it must be acknowledged that we cannot eliminate the risk of COVID-19 transmission entirely, as this would disproportionately impact on the overall safety and quality of the experience. For example, a short close contact intervention might be deemed necessary to undertake a rescue, with the need to quickly rescue the person in the water, being more important that the small chance that the COVID-19 virus is transmitted during that episode.
Throughout your sea kayaking activity we aim to minimise close contact moments.
Food and drink
Please bring your own packed lunch, drinks and snacks, and only share within your household group.
